This one is not really Jamaica-related. Well, actually for me it is, as I got to really know the work of the person this post is about during my stay in Kingston. P. D. Rickards introduced me to some of his material I hadn´t seen before and which really impressed me. I´m talking about the shots of Boogie, a Serbian photographer who has spent a big part of his live documenting the darker side of New York´s society. Crack, Guns, Gangs, you name it. His work has appeared in the New York Times, The Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, and so on. Recently, he seems to do more and more “corporate” stuff, too. After some of his older pictures were used for the same “Lee”-campaign, P. D. Rickards´ shots were featured in, he now worked for Nike. That´s why the sneaker giant is putting up an exhibtion with Boogie´s photographies in Harlem. So if you´re a New York resident or in NYC in autumn, don´t miss that:

I´m kinda busy these days. However, I don´t want you to miss the latest edition of the Fader´s “The Let Out” show on East Village Radio. Tracklist includes a M.I.A. feat. Cham and a Beyonce reggae-RMX among some more or less current hiphop- and dancehall-tunes.

A thread in the forum of Riddim magazine led me to a documentary on “Gangs in Jamaica”. It´s part of a Sky One documentary series called “Ross Kemp On Gangs”. Watch Parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 on Youtube.

Once again via Riottt.com, this Japan-Jamaica-America co-production puts the likes of Tony Matterhorn, Richie Feelings, Samit-T and Masta Simon on the “Rock and Heavy”-riddim. Quite entertaining.
