The Afflicted Yard Vernissage

Vernissage01

What a trip… Just reached back from The Afflited Yard vernissage at the Milieu Digital gallery and the official vernissage afterparty at the Wasserwerk Club in Bern, Switzerland. And right now, I don´t regret any minute of the 16 hours I spent on the train (might think different tomorrow morning though :)). It was great to finally see a nice selection of Peter´s pictures you know from online as Swiss quality prints. They worked perfect on the wall and it´s not a surprise that many of them got sold right away (you can also buy those left online btw). The turnout at the gallery was pretty decent - and it was even better at the Wasserwerk Club, where Jahcoozi, Terry Lynn, Audioporn and Wildlife squeezed every db out of one of the best soundsystems I ever heard in a European club to entertain the ram dancehall. Shouts to the whole Milieu Digital/Kitchener crew, Peter, Goldrush, Russ, Caroline and Terry! Gotta take this thing through the world.

While Elephant Man actually managed to drop two or three decent tunes with the help of Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor recently, he just can´t leave a good impression pon video. We brought you his dancing school a while ago and we won´t keep back what he had to tell “Dancehall is the new punkrock”-Vice TV about bling and things.

Black and White

While one of Kingston´s finest upcoming spitters, Einstein, seemed to finally buzz after having released “Rise Di Machine” on Stephen McGregors´ (btw: listen to Federation Invasion #30 which is a 90-minute-tribute to “Di Genius” - BOOM!) “Powercut Riddim” in late 2006 and was even offered an album-deal from Vice Records (which he didn´t wanna sign though), it got kinda quiet around him lately. Deejays like Munga stepped into the videolight making Einstein just another Jamaican talent who never really made it despite great talent.
But Stein now teamed up with Demarco to take another try. Watch the video to his tune “Black Rain” which is pretty black and pretty bad. Word on Town´s streets also has it that Einstein will be touring Germany in early 2008 - we´ll keep you informed.

“Dubplate Drama”

DubplateDrama

No, this one ain´t about European soundbwoys Western Unioning their money to Jamaica in the hope of getting decent specials for their crew and ending up with some splice or fake shit or no dubplate at all.
This is is about “Dubplate Drama” - “the world´s first interactive television drama”. It´s an UK TV-series on Grime which started off with cellphone-only episodes but was put on TV due to its fast growing popularity after season one. The twist is that people can actually choose how they want the story to go on after each episode by voting on the Dubplate Drama Myspace site.
You wanna watch? Now? Jump over to the Hearing Test´s Dubplate Drama page on which all episodes available online are listed.

P.S. If there´s any Jamaican filmmakers reading this: I´m pretty sure that something similar could work pretty good with Reggae and Dancehall characters, too.
