Magazine Stack Full Up: “Shook”

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Shook

Some of you might already have noticed: we added a new category to our webshop: magazines. You will find mags there that your local newspaper place won´t normally carry. Mags about wicked music. Mags with wicked layouts and wicked photography.

The first publication we added to our stock is “Shook” magazine out of London, UK which is

a brand new publication inspired by the five elements, the four noble truths, three - the magic number, forever two stepping (never half) but still always on the 1. UK-based but with an international outlook.

In issue 1, Jez and his team

get up close & personal with DJ Muro (the king of diggin), touch down in Detroit and vibe with Guilty Simpson, Black Milk, Denaun Porter and invincible; chat basslines in the studio with Benga, track down elusive french street artist Invader, get loose with Leroy Burgess, feature exclusive photos from the New York downtown scene by Paula Court, and relay some uplifting musical undercurrents in Ethiopia from Maga Bo and in Belize from Andy Palacio.

As if that wasn’t enough, they also have columns from Benji B, Paul Camo? / WE ARE… and The Heatwave, in their ladies section they speak to Simphiwe Dana and Yukimi Nagano, while their charts and reviews section will let you know what’s fresh for ‘08.

Check what other readers have to say:

Really enjoying the 1st Shook, looking forward to the next one!

Well done, this is needed!

Hey Hey … mag is looking great!

Now go get your copy.“Shook” is a Germany exclusive. And this is just the start. Keep your eyes open and save your pocket money as others are to follow sooner than soon.

seen. in Jamaican Media

Observer

I pointed you to the post on the launch of the Passa Passa line on the Jamaica Observations blog already a few days ago. Now, I´m even more happy that a slightly different version of the article made it in the entertainment section of the printed newspaper as well.

This is the fourth time that seen. appears in Jamaican media, after having been mentioned in the Mona Campus Beat (where they mixed up me and Gabe :-)), the Star and the X-News (in which they called us “Feen” back then due to some misunderstandings on the phone :-)) during our stay in Kingston.

See the clippings after the jump.

BBC1 has a nice documentary on the “new” sound of LDN:

Dubstep rose from the primordial ooze of the underground in the early naughties and looks set to continue its quest for global domination in 2008.
Mary Anne Hobbs, the sound’s chief evangelist, travels the UK, meeting the producers, DJs and fans that are turning the music into a movement. This is your guide to the most unique sound of the century so far - don’t miss it.
