Today, the International Herald Tribune reports that Red Stripe will dramatically shorten its stageshow sponsoring activities in Jamaica. (via Dancehall.Mobi)

The company has withdrawn thousands of dollars (euros) in sponsorship from the popular “Reggae Sumfest” and “Sting” reggae show. Musicians are glorifying violence in what has become a worrisome trend, the company said in a statement Friday.

The moves comes after just recently there were again controversial discussions about homophobia in dancehall lyrics during Bounty Killer´s “Deadly Alliance” tour in Europe.

Even if it might be that Red Stripe prior came to this decision to save the reputation of the brand itself, to me this is a decision into the right direction. Respect.
