Tim Turbo on Discobelle

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

TimTurbo_MixinItUpDiscobelle

Before getting on his plane to Stockholm, team seen´s Berlin wunderkind Tim Turbo dropped a mix over at Discobelle.

This mix is basically what I listen to the whole day and what I play the whole night. Stuff thats affected by the Caribbean or tunes from the Caribbean, affected by European productions. Genres are overrated. Bass is duty. Jamaica is the fastest country alife. Kraftwerk is the genesis. Automatic doors make me feel like Jedi. And he is a good looking boy, by the way.

Put this on your iPod before you get on your BMXs and cycle to our Block Party tomorrow. (In case your way to the party is a short one, start from the back to get an impression what another Block Party DJ - Faluma boss Marflix - is capable of, too).

Remember: seen. Block Party on Saturday

seenBlockParty

Tim Turbo and MashUp Crew’s Marflix will adjacent play at seen.’s block-bbq-lime at some yard in Leipzig together with Mighty Flo of Upliftment on Saturday, the 30th of August. This one’s going to be relaxed in first place and pulsating when the sun goes down.

Can´t say this any better than Tim. However, I´d like to add, that we don´t charge anyone for enter the dance and that there´s going to be drinks and food from 6pm till late at night. In case you fear that we don´t serve what you love, you can bring your own booze and snacks as well. See you in Leipzig on Saturday!

P.S. If anybody out there is from Sweden, go and check Tim Turbo playing alongside the mighty Jamtech Foundation at Club Berns in Stockholm on Friday.

seen. on Neil Nice (Turntable Lab)

NeilNice

Those who have had a look at the pics we took during our stay in New York earlier this year, might recognize the guy starring in seen.´s Bounty Killer shirt above. That´s Neil Nice - DJ, skateboarder and our very personal Turntable Lab (btw: nice Forbes feature on them right there) employee of the month May 08. He sure knows how to party and he sure knows how to deejay a wicked reggae selection as well.

Shout outs also go out to Sabo who blogged that stuff over at TTL and to (Unemp)Lloyd who had a mad nice BBQ in his BK backyard on one of our last days over there.

Guardian: Jamaican dancehall culture in the 80s

Monday, August 25th, 2008

A few weeks ago, The Guardian had a nice little series of photographs of Jamaica´s dancehall culture in the 80s:

Writer and photographer Beth Lesser travelled in Jamaica throughout the 80s interviewing musicians for her magazine. Along the way she captured the scene at the time, exploring the period between the death of Bob Marley and ragga’s conquest of America.

Fader_TNT

The latest issue of Fader magazine has Busy Signal,

the baddest loner in dancehall,

on the front page and a feature on “TNT” - Timberlee, Natalie (Storm) and Tifa - inside. Especially good to see Storm making her way into international media.

Download the story on the girls here, and get the whole magazine plus podcast over at The Fader.
