“Trying to be a peacock! But a philosophical peacock”
Friday, October 31st, 2008Quite a list of stuff for a Friday: The quote above was ripped out of an funny to irritating interview with Roots Manuva found on State magazine. Two more articles more (Wildlife) or less (Gleaner) worth reading are a Gleaner piece on violent dancehall lyrics and a Wildlife! feature in Kinki magazine (via 45ers).
In case you´re brain prefers audio/visual information to text, check Cyan Wait´s latest edition of basses for the masses, 77Klash´s performance of “Caroline” at CMJ 2008 and the footage of Superhorstjansen´s first fashion show in Hamburg, Germany.
P.S. As you´re money won´t be worth anything soon anyway, invest in Ronny Trettmann’s, Uwe Kaa’s and the Roots Rockers’ latest releases now available at SoulForce and Amazon.

The Fader gave me some details on M.I.A.´s finally available fashion line, TNT´s performance at the last Fader release party and some genre-blowing “reggae artists” like De Tropix, Natalie Storm and Terry Lynn in the latest edition of Ghetto Palms.
And Rockers NYC pointed me to an excellent BBC documentary on The Specials.
Teutonic Trio: Trettmann, Uwe Kaa & Roots Rockers
Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Tomorrow and Friday will see three exciting releases on the German reggae and dancehall market:
“The Voice”, Ronny Trettmann, teams up with SoulForce to unleash what is probably the best native language deejay mix this country has ever seen. - check www.soul-force.com for the CD. In case you haven´t heard the snippet, go this way.
One day after, Uwe Kaa, another seen. team member and the nation´s finest singjay, will drop his first solo LP “Endlich Single”. You can download a megamix of the album alongside an exclusive track featuring Dennis Alcapone here and pre-order the CD on Amazon already. Also, a video is soon to come. I´ll keep you posted on that.
Also on Friday, the follow-up to the Roots Rockers’ “Clubwise” mix is supposed to come out on SoulForce. Number One was a classic, so you better put this on your shopping list, too.
P.S. Also check out Upliftment Intl.’s “From Way Back When” webmix which is available on germaica.net.

John Eden comes to Berlin for Dia De Los Muertos (October 31st)
Monday, October 27th, 2008
While the musical line-up (or rather all genres named on the flyer but dubstep) for the “Dia De Los Muertos” in Berlin´s K9 on upcoming Friday doesn´t/don´t sound to inviting to me, the conference taking place before has e.g. my favourite British “reggae blogger” and mastermind behind Woofah magazine, John Eden (uncarved.org), on the bill. He will talk about
Shaking The Foundations: Reggae soundsystems meet ‘Big Ben British values’ downtown
John Eden will examine the contribution reggae soundsystems have contributed to British culture and identity, and what they can teach the global mp3 generation.
